Samuel sat in the parlor, his eyes fixed on the antique mirror. Its twin had been ruined by Veronica when she had caused them all that trouble at the resort. He was glad he at least still had this one. It was a beautiful piece and pulsed with the energy that he had grown to identify with his mistress. The house was so full of the energy of the hundreds of trapped souls here that it quickened him and made him feel younger and more powerful. They were the generator producing the energy needed to open the gate to the shadow world and allow Lilith’s soldiers to come through, not as shadow people, but as themselves for the first time since the battle at the gates. Everything was in place. As soon as the blood moon rose, the spell would be complete, and chaos would be let loose on the world.

He had been sorry to lose Talia. She had been a fun plaything. He was sorry that she would not be joining the souls here when they were burned up to open the gates. Her soul had escaped the shadow people that he had sent to retrieve her. He was even more disappointed that the long-sought-after hideaway of the mages had slipped through their fingers. They had been so close.

They were coming, his spies had told him as much, and they would have in their company someone that Lilith hated as much as she hated Lilith. She had told him about Aiden before, mostly to revel in how sweet it had been to finally kill him. She would be infuriated when she found out that he had tricked her. That he had been alive all these years. He should be able to bring her back from the shadows before they showed up. He really regretted that he wouldn’t be here to witness her unleashing her rage on them. It would truly be a sight to behold. They had no idea what was coming.
